Firmware 6.31 is out and as mentioned before, it is a “system software stability update”.

Do not update unless you want to lose the ability to play homebrew, plugins and disc images.

It seems that Sony’s next-generation handheld gaming system has been delayed due to hardware issues.

According to QJ, Charlie Demerjian over at Semi Accurate said that the PSP2 will be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 but due to its high power consumption, Sony is now holding back development of the device until Sony fixes its stuff:

It is now set for a CES showing, but it will almost assuredly be released at a later date. This isn’t due to the number of engineers mauled by moles yesterday, but because the Tegra 2 is massively over it’s promised power budget. In a segment that finds 5% overages unacceptable, Tegra 2 is 20%+ over power budget. That explains why Nvidia PR suddenly changed the focus of the PSP2 screed to avoid the word ‘phone’, but, luckily for Sony, the PSP2 does not have phone capabilities.
(…)

The power ‘whoopsie’ means delays and possibly spec downgrades for the PSP2, but we will have to see where it ends up. Between that overage and several showstopper bugs, Sony is said to be very miffed at Nvidia right now. Even the moles could sense that before they pounced on engineer after engineer. The scene in the streets is almost as bad as the scenes in the Nvidia meeting rooms when the Sony people come around.

I guess we’ll have to wait even more now until we can put our hands on a PSP2.

so everyone knows what prometheus is normally it’s a tool for patching games that require firmware higher than 5.00 on the psp. well this time around Red Squirrel had made his own. this one, being a plugin for 5.00 m33-6 users. just a heads up the diffrence between torky’s prometheus and red’s is the support for PSP-450. heres what the notes have to say.

* If you use the KHBBS plugin remember to disable it before you use this program, otherwise it can’t write files in flash correctly.
* The program adds the Stargate.prx plugin string in first position in your GAME.txt (if it exists!). So other plugins (if present) will be saved from second position (you won’t loose them!).
* When you uninstall the MOD prometheus with the specific function of this program the GAME.txt file will be completely deleted. So you will loose all plugins enabled in GAME.
* The program does not recognize the CF version, for this reason it works in any Custom Firmware: be sure to use it ONLY in CF 5.00M33-6!

*update*
today they release a v2 of it heres the change log.

* Added Italian translation.
* v1.0 could not write correctly the Stargate.prx if the SEPLUGINS folder did not exist: fixed.
* Added submenus for Installation and Uninstallation features.
* Added help menus to give you more information about the program’s functions.
* Added a function to install all files in your Flashs: the Stargate.prx plugin will be written in Flash0 and flash0:/kd/pspbt*nf.bin files will be updated to auto-load it at startup! In this way you won’t loose a place in your GAME.txt
* Added a function to uninstall an “all in flashs” installation (read above).
* The program will recognize the PSP model (Phat or Slim) writing only the correct files in Flash0.

everyone enjoy.

Not sure if you have ever read this, but in case you didn’t, check this article regarding Sony filing a trademark for ‘PlayView’.

In case you do not want to read the article, it mentions a portable product which offers gaming functionalities as well as more professional features like word processing, e-reader and mailing.

One month later, the Wall Street Journal seems to have confirmed its existence.

Sony is developing a portable device that shares characteristics of hand-held game machines, e-book readers and netbook computers, according to people familiar with the matter.

WSJ didn’t elaborate on exactly which device they were referring too. It could be a PSP2 as well as a tablet or even a notebook.

To add more to the PSP2 topic, CVG also published an article two days ago mentioning that Nintendo and Sony are discussing with wireless carriers the possibility of using 3G network connections on the 3DS and PSP2 respectively.

WSJ said the following about it:

Some Sony e-book readers already come with 3G connections but it isn’t clear if a new wireless gadget will use carrier networks.

What do you think of all this?

This one’s real, but as wololo and mamosuke say in the source (available at the bottom of this post), it’s useless for most people because it’s an in-game exploit in a retailer game available on PSN so if the name ever goes public it will get patched 5 minutes later. Props to mamosuke for the exploit!

Sorry for the delay guys posting this one.

Here’s another useless firmware from Sony, it’s useless not only because it adds something we can already achieve with custom firmware but because it patches certain exploits. Take a look below.
