Today, wololo has released an update to the famous Half Byte Loader which brings two major changes, to quote:

First, the menu is now a standard eboot. It means that if you are a homebrew coder, you can create your own menu with the usual SDK tools, and are not limited to the Patapon SDK anymore. Second, HBL is now able to come back to the menu once you quit a homebrew. This function is highly experimental for now, so don’t cry if the second homebrew you run doesn’t work as expected… This feature can be disabled by setting return_to_xmb_on_exit=1 in the file hbl/hbl_config.txt. I still recommend revision 85 for now if you are looking for maximum compatibility and performance, but revision 91 sure has some benefits.

I especially want to thank Noobz and Fanjita, as most of this new code is a ripoff of their eLoader. (If you have never heard of the noobz eLoader, you missed the PSP’s golden era)

Sony Europe boss, David Reeves, says that Sony needs release the rumoured PSP2 if they want to compete with Nintendo in the handheld market.

In an interview to GamesIndustry.biz, the current Capcom Europe COO said:

It’s an exciting time and you could possibly have two handhelds coming out within months or a year of each other. I’d like to the think it would be for the publishers and developers and consumers. Sony tried to make the transition with PSPgo, I think that changed some consumers’ attitudes, but they need to come back with something on PSP pretty quickly to stay in the game because Nintendo are s*** hot at getting these things right. And they always get these things right.

Most of us were expecting the PSP2 to be revealed at E3 and we all got disappointed when Sony’s E3 conference ended without a PSP2 announcement. Instead, we saw a new 3D enabled Nintendo (Nintendo 3DS) which looks very, very promising.

Do you agree with Reeves that Sony needs to release PSP2?

No, Red Squirrel hasn’t come back to the scene, he’s just released this app because it was requested by members of the PSP-Cheats.it community.

What does D2-D3 Switcher do?

D2-D3 Switcher is a simple PSP homebrew to switch easily from CF 5.50GEN-D3 to -D2 and viceversa.
It works changing only the peagasus.prx in Flash0. Returning to D2 (using the D2′s peagasus.prx) you will can use those savedatas that appear corrupted in D3 or play those games that have issues with D3 (such as Jak and Daxter, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, etc…). But remember to come back to D3 when you want to play those modern games that require it.

That’s right guys, coyotebean has found a kernel exploit in firmware 6.20 (not sure if it affects lower firmwares).

You can find more information in this thread, specifically on page 3.

According to the first post of that thread, there won’t be any kind of “enabler”:

2010-06-10:
Just to clear things up. There will not be any “enabler”.
( and talking about “enabler” is off-topic)

Would be nice if someone could make use of this kernel exploit to allow GO users to use CFW.

PSP Developer Torky has released a PRX plugin which enables M33 firmware to play games that require FW 6.20 to run.

This plugin is still in its early stages and must be tested but according to various posts it was confirmed to work for many new games.

According to the author, we’re not allowed to host the PRX plugin anywhere on the web so you must download it straight from: pspking.de or pspsource.de

This is the stable and recommended version of Half Byte Loader. If you don’t like to report bugs this is for you. Otherwise, you can always grab the developerment version but look at this first.

Anyway, enjoy the video from DashHacks!

Instructions:

  1. Install the Patapon 2 Demo
  2. Connect PSP with USB
  3. Copy the “hbl” directory and the “h.bin” file to ms0: (copy them to the root)
  4. Copy UCUS98732_DATA02 (Patapon 2 SAVEDATA) to ms0:/PSP/SAVEDATA
  5. Copy your homebrew to ms0:/PSP/GAME
  6. Load the demo, load the hacked save, load your homebrew.

Probably a bit late but since I don’t know yet if Sony has patched the game, I’m going post it.

Download Splinter Cell Essentials (EU version) from PSN.

This exploit was found by Dark_Kendox and FrEdDy and they left a special thanks to Wololo, KiNgOfUnIvErS, psphakerwarrior, and Phantom91.

They kept this exploit in secret but looks like someone talked about it to someone else without permission and the news started to spread.

Remember, do not upgrade your PSP once Sony asks you to upgrade, remember that with HBL in the works this exploit may be useful for those running an unhackable PSP.

This is how it works:

Set your system language to English and copy the folder “ULES002810int” into PSP/SAVEDATA and h.bin to the root of your memory stick; run Splinter Cell Essentials, load the hacked save and press “Continue.”

E3 is getting closer and closer and it promises to be the best E3 ever.

According to MVC it’s not only Nintendo that plans to announce a new portable console (3DS), Sony also plans to unveil PSP2 during this year’s E3:
We already have a fair idea what to expect at next month’s E3 – plenty of into about Move, Natal and the 3DS (and Vitality Sensor) for instance – but Sony could perhaps be saving the biggest surprise of all.

MCV has been informed of a significant increase in marketing spend at two key publishers for Q4 2010. At a time when the PSP is languishing in Western markets – and its most recent iteration, the PSPgo, is falling flat – it is being speculated that publishers are laying the ground for an offensive on a brand new iteration of Sony’s handheld.

Another publisher has also told MCV that it is waiting on a specific announcement from the platform holder before it can reveal of its future PSP plans until, though it did allude to the ongoing development of several unnamed titles behind closed doors.

Sony PSP Go was a failure according to some and Sony has to announce a new Playstation Portable if they want to keep up with Nintendo and this E3 would be the right time to do that.
